When Your Passion is in Alignment With What People Need
Hello Dear Hearts,
Do you ever get into a mode where you are juggling a bunch of different things in your life that you are super into, yet the run around is leaving you a little frazzled and burned out, or maybe a bit confused as to where to put your energy?
I know for me, no matter how many times I think I have this figured out, there may always be something that pulls me out of balance (because I want to do it all!), and I have to keep taking the time and space to do some re-prioritizing so that I can show up fully to the things I love.
And that’s why I love this month’s episode of Knowing in the Bones because in it, Jessy Smith shares her wisdom in how she navigates her life as a performer, and as a creative business owner, by honing her relationship to her intuition. On the surface, some might not think there are a lot of parallels between her two worlds but there actually is, and that is profound because of the way it enables serve Jessy to serve the people she works with; whether she is guiding people through an immersive theater experience, or guiding people towards finding their agency in how they are able to transform their relationship to the space they inhabit.
So how do we make space in our lives? Some thoughts on that, that I’ve gathered from speaking to fellow creatives:
Find Your Nugget
When it comes down to looking at the work that feeds you, even if it feels disparate in a categorical sense, you might ask yourself, what is it about these things that I love? What is it about these things that hold value?
How can you carry that little nugget of value and purpose with you as you move from space to space working with different people in different roles in a way that keeps you oriented to what matters most to you?
And how does this empower you to bring value to the people that you serve and the people you collaborate with no matter the context?
Curate Your Experience
This was one of my favorite parts of my conversation with Jessy. We explored how she is able to streamline her time in a way that allows her to focus on aspects of the business that allows her to find a deeper connection to how she can best serve her clients in a sustainable and expansive way.
Similarly, when choosing a project to work on, instead of just taking any gig that comes along, she is really thinking about:
What is the work like with this person?
What is the service that this work is providing?
And is that something that's in alignment with what I want to do?
Curating our time to focus on the most important aspects of each of our different pursuits can free up loads of opportunities to change the things that reveal themselves to be a bit of a time-suck, or not impactful , or as aligned with our goals as we once thought. Thus freeing up our personal time and time to pursue our passions fully and with spaciousness. Yay!
What’s Possible
I believe that when we can find our personal nugget of joy, curate our experience, and take the time we need to listen to our intuition when making big choices, we can get past the fact that our lives intersect multiple spaces and diminish the need to explain to ourselves and others how they relate or why they matter.
This way we can just do the things and feel the joy.
Sending love on this full moon to all of your passions and pursuits and the ways in which they weave together,
Tara
