Starting,Resting,Both

I don’t know where this image came from but a friend sent it to me and it’s great

Hello Dear Hearts,

By some such luck and not without loss, we made it, you and I, into 2022. Somewhat wary, somewhat hopeful, and most likely a mash up of everything in between.

There’s all these times of the year when our dominant culture pushes us to feel like we should be producing and executing.

(P.S. executing is so violent, what about manifesting?)

A few weeks ago it was like…

QUICK! Wrap everything up before the holidays or else (what exactly?)

And now it's like…

GO GO GO, NEW NEW NEW start all the projects now cause three whole days have gone by!

And then Spring comes and its time to SPRING CLEAN INTO ACTION! (?)

And then summer. I don't know what summer is but I guess you better have PLANS.

Fall. BACK TO SCHOOL!… I’m 41. Why do I still feel that way?

This calendared time is a construct that serves it’s purpose yes, but has no business shaming you into paralysis and overwhelm in the process.

So my message to you in this early part of the year is just to be where you are at and let ideas come to you as they come. Take action as you feel ready to take action and rest when you need to rest.

As a coach, I'm all about helping people create change and meet goals. But what that really means is, I work with my clients to make sure that those goals are authentic to them and not influenced by dominant culture’s way of prescribing what or how or when things should happen. As artists we carve our own path. Most importantly, we are ready and willing to shift that path and spoke out into new paths as we respond to the world around us. And thank goddess for that.

Because when you feel motivated and like you have permission to be inside of your own rhythm and to approach your work and your art-making from what is authentically true to you, I guarantee you're going to be more motivated. You're going to be more inspired. You’re going to connect to your audience more meaningfully. And you're going to be feeling more generous with your time no matter the month. Cause you’ll be in your life, not chasing after it with each turning page of the calendar.

I'm wishing you all the best for this new year. And whatever intentions you are setting, I'm hoping that you are gentle with how they roll out. The universe has a funny way of answering our calls. Just listen.

And finally, let this be an invitation to notice when external expectations start to creep in that have you second guessing the moves you actually do want to make.

If you're feeling slow, be slow. Slow is good and small can be huge.

I believe in you. The authentic you. You on your own time and on your own terms. And I believe that when you are able to be you - when we are all able to be ourselves - our world can start to heal.

So much love to you ,

Tara
